Joint N.S.G.W. and N.D.G.W. ceremony held at Golden Gate Park’s iconic bronze monument
San Francisco, CA (PRUnderground) June 2nd, 2026
Members of the Native Sons of the Golden West (N.S.G.W.) and the Native Daughters of the Golden West (N.D.G.W.) gathered at noon today at the World War I Doughboy Statue in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park to honor and commemorate California veterans who gave their lives in service to their country.
The annual Memorial Day observance, a cherished tradition of both fraternal organizations, drew members dressed in ceremonial regalia for a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the historic bronze monument. The Doughboy Statue, which stands atop a granite boulder, is dedicated to the memory of the San Francisco Parlors Native Sons of the Golden West who gave their lives in World Wars I and II.
The ceremony included the formal presentation of a floral wreath adorned with red gerbera daisies and greenery, placed at the base of the monument’s memorial plaque — which bears the names of fallen members from both World Wars. Members of the N.S.G.W. and N.D.G.W. participated in a moment of solemn remembrance, reflecting on the sacrifices made by California’s native sons and daughters in uniform.
“Memorial Day is a time to pause, reflect, and give thanks for the extraordinary courage and sacrifice of those who served,” said Marcia Skelton, PR Chairman for the Native Sons of the Golden West, Redwood Parlor #66. “The Doughboy Statue represents a permanent tribute to our members who answered the call to duty. Gathering here each year ensures their memory endures.”
Parking and shuttle service for the event was made available from the Stow Lake Boathouse Parking Lot in Golden Gate Park.
